Ground effect is a wonderful thing... especially when you find yourself inverted and its the only thing keeping you off the ground.

Chuck Yeager spoke in his autobiography of exploring the phenomenon of flight in ground effect in an F-100 Super Sabre. He got over the desert, low and fast, and just kept going lower. He said at around ten feet (I think), it just wouldn't go any lower. Ground Effect simply kept it aloft, regardless of elevator input.

It wouldn't go any lower because his giant titanium balls were dragging on the sand...
